"You may see through Urumqi at a glance, but never the mysterious eyes of Kashgar," said Maierdan, who opened a cafe in the Ancient City of Kashgar, China's Xinjiang, to keep its spirit alive. In chimney carvings, vintage windows, and worn tableware, he wove fragments of the past into a place where the town's soul still lingers. With patience and commitment, he believes Kashgar charm will shine again.
