"I think when I die, I should be buried here in the sand," said Tuerhong, who has bound his life to the Taklimakan Desert, yet hopes its children can walk beyond it. Driving into the desert oasis of Daliyabuyi village, he brings gifts and encourages them to study and explore. He loves the desert so deeply that he values any connection with the outside that may lead to a better life here.
