An e-Strap that makes mechanical watches smarter

Despite the recent buzz around smart watches, some people still have many reasons to stick with mechanical watches. And luxury watch maker Montblanc just added one more reason.

Montblanc has announced an e-Strap that can literally turn a mechanical watch into a smart one, according to Engadget.com.

A leather strap that has a carbon fiber texture, the e-Strap features an electronic module that can connect it to iOS or Android devices via Bluetooth. With a 0.9-inch monochromatic OLED touchscreen, the module allows text messages and calls notifications, activity and fitness tracking, music controlling, remote camera triggering, etc.

Montblanc says the e-Strap's battery can support five days of continuous use, and it is designed with a micro-USB charging port.
