All seven members of the Party committee of Wanfeng community in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, have been suspended following protests by local residents about under-priced land transfers and dubious collective financial accounts.

Three people sent by the Party committee of Shajing subdistrict are handling the daily work of the Wanfeng Party committee, according to a statement from the subdistrict office.

The Party disciplinary body of Baoan district is investigating possible corruption and related financial matters, the Shenzhen-based Daily Sunshine newspaper reported.

Once one of the most developed villages in China, Wanfeng village, now called Wanfeng community, has seen its economy deteriorate in the past 10 years.

Its residents have been petitioning higher-level authorities over the irregularities since February. Some residents blocked the road in protest on Saturday, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.

They are demanding that the collective land transferred at below-value prices in recent years be recovered, and that the financial accounts of the community and its corporation, made public. They say no dividends have been paid to them for years.

The residents also demand that the members of the Wanfeng Party committee and residents' committee be sacked for the disorderly administration, and new elections be held.

The property management fee for businesses and housing landlords imposed by the residents' committee and property management company, starting March 1, was unreasonable and should be canceled, they said.

Contracts between the Wanfeng residents' committee and real estate developers, provided by villager Pan Bo, show that a patch of land in Wanfeng was sold for more than 200 million yuan ($31.75 million) but the residents' committee only received 22 million yuan, with the rest unaccounted for, reported Shenzhen Satellite TV.

Local residents said the deal was just the tip of the iceberg regarding land transfers and embezzlement of collective assets.

"No dividend in the past 10 years. Why? (The money) was eaten by the tiger at the committee," said a villager named Pan Zhifa.

Xie Xiaodong, Party chief of Shajing subdistrict, admitted that problems existed in Shajing subdistrict, and the situation in some communities was serious and complicated.

He pledged to work out measures in accordance with the law and to improve communication and coordination.
