Shanghai Job-seeker Confidence Index released

Residents in Shanghai are generally confident about landing their ideal jobs, according to a report by the city's human resources and social security authority.

Based on a survey that polled job seekers from 4,000 families who are aged over 16, the report determined that the latest Job-seeker Confidence Index in Shanghai is 133.2. The index has a maximum of 200 marks. Higher marks indicate higher confidence levels in the job market.

Based on the report's findings, 43.3 percent of the respondents said they are optimistic about finding a suitable job, as compared to 18.2 percent of them expressing that they have low or no confidence in doing so.

The report also found that women generally displayed higher confidence levels than men, with their indexes being 135.3 and 129.4 respectively. However, women aged between 31 and 35 years old appeared less confident compared to men. Authorities said that this is due to their insufficient knowledge and preparation for reemployment after giving birth.

Another report by Labour Daily on February 17 said that most of the laborers in Shanghai's construction sector, which was notorious for its meager wages, managed to earn monthly salaries of more than 7,000 yuan ($1,020) in light of a shortage of manpower, a boom in construction demand in third-tier cities and the younger generation's changing perceptions of employment.
