Nantong's transport system features road traffic, waterand flight. There are many highways connecting Nantong with other cities. Coastline highways go through Nantong. The north and south of Jiangsu province is linked by Nantong ferries along the Yangtze River. The Suzhou-Nantong Bridge currently under-construction will reduce the journey time to Shanghai to an hour. And the bridge will reduce the journey time to Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou to less than two hours each. Nantong airport lies northeast of the urban area and has flights to Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangdong, Chengdu, Wuhan and other places.
The NETDA Free Trade Zone got the original go-ahead, on Jan 3, 2013, from the State Council, for a 5.29-sq-km area, in two parts.
