Pingnan sees booming rural tourism

"I received more than 6,000 tourists from Oct 1 to 6," Zhang Shuyan, the curator of the Farming Culture Museum in Jitou village, Pingnan county, told reporters.

Jitou village was first built in the third year of Emperor Xizong's reign (876) in the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907). It tops the list of "four hometowns of scholars" in Pingnan.

The village features well-preserved customs, cultural traditions and residential houses.

The Farming Culture Museum, dubbed a "Folklore Forbidden City", has a collection of nearly 20,000 antiques in 12 ancient houses dating back to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

The proprietor of a snack bar in Jitou village said with a smile: "There are large numbers of visitors every day. Once, my restaurant sold 2,000 bowls of wonton in a single day."

Now, Pingnan has three nationally famous historical and cultural towns and 12 villages.

In the wake of the overall development of the tourism sector in Pingnan, the towns and villages are well protected and developed. And, visitors seem to have preferred rural tourism during the week-long National Day holiday. Local authorities' rough calculations show that Pingnan received some 100,000 visitors over that period.
