Jinchang: science and technology boost Chinese nickel industry

A forum on breaking through the scientific problems of the manufacturing industry kicked off in Jinchuan Co, a Ni-Co manufacturer in Jinchang city, Gansu province on Sept 22, 2015.

The activity attracted 28 universities, 25 enterprises, and 25 exploration and design institutes such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Jinchang has found a way to balance its industrial capacity by establishing more eco-friendly industries.

Yang Zhiqiang, president of Jinchuan Co, also inked a memorandum of cooperation with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization.

Jinchuan Co brought in the Ni-Co industry by working the Jinchuan Nickel Mine located in the desert in Jinchang city, the largest of its kind in China and the second largest in the world.

The company has held the scientific forums since 1972, winning 16 national science and technology awards.

The forum was also supported by the Gansu government and the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association.

Jinchang city has the third most abundant nickel ore reserves in the world and is often referred to as the "Chinese city of nickel ore". It produces more than 90 percent of the country's nickel and platinum group metals.
