Nantong indigo print fabric debuts at international symposium

Wu Yuanxin, national intangible culture inheritor and curator of the Nantong Indigo Print Fabric Museum, was invited to attend the ninth International Shibori Symposium in the city of Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, from Oct 31 to Nov 3.

Wu gave a speech concerning his research on the inheritance, patterns and development of indigo print fabric at the symposium, which was well-received by the participants.

He and his group also brought over 100 indigo print fabric works, such as toys, scarves and wall hangings, to the symposium. They demonstrated dying and weaving techniques of indigo print cloth, which appealed to the fabric artisans.

It was the first time that the symposium was held in the Chinese mainland. It attracted over 160 domestic and foreign experts in clothing and textile. The symposium discussed topics covering archaeology, ethnography, fashion, design, printing and cultural relic restoration.
