Hydropower Construction

The predecessor of POWERCHINA, Sinohydro Corporation, was the largest State-owned enterprise in the field of hydropower construction in China and enjoyed a long and storied history.

Sinohydro participated in the construction of many landmark hydropower projects since the founding of the People's Republic of China, such as the Three Gorges Hydropower Station on the Yangtze River, the South-to-North Water Division Project, the Xiaolangdi Hydropower Station on the Yellow River, the Ertan Hydropower Station, Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station, Jinping Hydropower Station and the Xiluodu Hydropower Station.

POWERCHINA honors the distinguished history of Sinohydro by maintaining its considerable advantages in the field of hydropower engineering construction and through excellent communication and cooperation with the government and project owners.

The company has undertaken the development of several new domestic hydropower projects that have attracted worldwide attention. These include Baihetan Hydropower Station, which has a capacity of 16,000 megawatts, Wudongde Hydropower Station, with a capacity of 10,200 MW, and Lianghekou Hydropower Station, with a capacity of 3,000 MW.

The company further integrates useful resources and gives full play to its advantages in integrating the entire industrial chain of survey, design and construction in the field of hydropower engineering.

POWERCHINA also actively explores the development of hydropower resources on the alpine plateau – designing and building the Zangmu Hydropower Station, the largest hydropower project in Tibet autonomous region.

At the same time, the company looks beyond China's borders and plays an active role in the country's goal of going global. POWERCHINA has constructed several important overseas hydropower projects, such as Coca Codo Sinclair Hydropower Station in Ecuador, Nam Ou River Hydropower Project in Laos and Bui Hydropower Station in Ghana.
