Cattle Hill Wind Farm in Australia handed over to owners

The handover ceremony for the Cattle Hill Wind Farm in Australia was held on Nov 26 through video conference -- marking the first renewable energy investment project successfully implemented by POWERCHINA in the developed country market, has taken from the construction stage to the operations stage.

Located in the central part of Tasmania, the wind farm is equipped with 48 wind turbines, with a total installed capacity of 148.4 megawatts.

During the construction of the wind farm, POWERCHINA and its partners worked together to overcome various challenges such as forest fires in Tasmania, heavy rain and snow and the COVID-19 epidemic, completing the project construction to a high standard and quality.

POWERCHINA has achieved the ideal combination of economic, environmental and social benefits during the project construction.

It maintained the local natural environment, organized various public welfare activities and set a benchmark for other wind power projects in Australia.

The construction and operation of the project promoted the development of related industries, local employment and benefited the community. It won high praise and extensive support from the local government and people.

The new facility is connected to the Australian national grid through a 4-kilometer 220-kilovolt transmission line. After it starts operating, the average annual on-grid power generation will be about 440 million kilowatt hours and its operational life is estimated at 20 years.

The wind farm will provide 5 percent of Tasmania with electricity and provide high-quality clean energy to 63,500 households, helping the state to achieve its goal of reaching 100 percent of renewable energy power generation by 2022, ahead of schedule.
