Gift giving gets complicated

But instead of visiting shops and shopping malls to buy gifts and personally giving them to family members, friends or officials, people just use e-commerce and express delivery to send the gifts to the intended person. By doing so, people can avoid supervision over gift giving using public funds and subsequent investigations.

Compared with the situation over the past years, the unhealthy trend of gift giving among officials has changed. But the "gift list" now provides them with an "underground" way to fulfill their aim and hide their corrupt deals as well.

The express delivery companies take on the responsibility of delivering the gifts, which look like common consignments that customers order online, and thus make the situation more complicated.

Therefore, instead of just investigating into the new mode of "gift list", we should strengthen supervision to eliminate the evil practice from its roots. We should not let e-commerce become the next "exit point" for corruption.
