My mother in law did not like me at first because I stopped her daughter from coming home to live in Hong Kong for good. But after I visited her with her daughter, then it changed. Just before we were going to leave on a plane her mother and her sisters were all asking her in Chinese when she was going to marry me. Even though I didn't understand what they were saying I knew what they were talking about. Spend time with your wife's family and let them get to know you.
