Should parents pay for college tuition?

I paid my own way through undergrad and grad school by working part time. My parents could not afford to pay for my tuition because my younger brother started college at the same time. I still remember my mom called me one night while I was a sophomore. She cried and apologized for not being able to give me any money. I told her not to worry about me and that hardships in life build character in a person. After all, if there is a will, then there is a way. I have two kids now…will I pay their way to college? If they willingly do their best in school, I will do my best to support them, but if they just want a handout, they will have to learn this lesson on their own.
