The pace of construction of Siyuan Country Park, located at Liangjiang New Area's Shuitu High-tech Industrial Park, has increased for an expected public opening before this year's Spring Festival.

Greenery projects covering 21.6 hectares is nearing 40 percent completion while a civil engineer-ing construction project is 70 percent completed.

Costing 80 million yuan ($11.8 million), the Siyuan Country Park will be the largest country park in the area, covering 32 hectares. Nine green space areas will allow people to relax, go sightseeing, visit wetlands, play sports and enjoy nature, as well as take part in cultural activities.

"The increasing number of high-tech companies and residents moving to the zone brings higher demands on the local environment and living conditions," said a manager at Chongqing Liangjiang New Area Urban Landscape Construction, noting that the company had the needs of local residents under consideration when constructing the park.

Currently, Liangjiang has 10 parks, but officials say by 2020 that number will increase to 100 to include 22 city mountain parks and 58 waterfront parks.
