Part One: Development of a communications system

Sun Yat-sen believed the development of a communications system should be a priority in the national plan. By the end of 2010, the total mileage of the national road network had reached 3.984 million km, 74,000 km of which was speedway, while rural highway made up 3.45 million km. Currently, China has a coastline of 18,000 km and inland waterway of 110,000 km. The port and container handling capacity has ranked first in the world for seven consecutive years, while passenger volume of civil aviation is ranked second.
