The Ziyun-Wangmo Expressway in Southwest China's Guizhou province has finished its 38.4 kilometers of construction work. It is expected to open to traffic this June.

Starting from Liaojing village in Ziyun county and ending at Pingdong Avenue in Wangmo county, the expressway spans 73.9 kilometers and features 112 bridges, amounting to one bridge every 0.66 kilometers.

Due to the mountainous terrain, many bridges had to be built, according to Ma Chuanfei, chief engineer of the Ziyung-Wangmo Expressway project department.
The expressway's Huohua Grand Bridge is the longest bridge with the most piers currently under construction in Guizhou province. It has 46 piers over 60 meters tall, with the tallest being 107.5 meters.
More than 80 percent of the foundation of the Huohua Grand Bridge is underwater, making it difficult to build. The project department made use of technology such as advanced radar detection and tunnel monitoring to overcome water-related issues.

The Ziyun-Wangmo Expressway is built with standard two-way four-lane roads and can support speeds of up to 80 km/h. The bridge will shorten travel time from Ziyun to Wangmo from the current 2 hours 30 minutes to just 50 minutes.
The expressway will become an important transportation channel for Southwest China and make travel more convenient for logistics, economic and trade centers, which will help promote poverty alleviation work in Guizhou, Yunnan and Guangxi, Ma said.
