Tangqiao town has a long history, rich culture and outstanding people. It is recorded that the Tang Dynasty's Jianzhen monk once set off from Old Huangsipu Port and successfully arrived in Japan on his sixth trip.. As the birthplace of township industry in southern Jiangsu, the town with a total area of 94.4 square kilometers, has flourishing industries attracting more than 1,500 enterprises. It has received the titles of China's Environmental Beautiful Town, National Health Town and China's living environment Model. For five consecutive years it has won the National Civilized Town title. It is expected that the construction of the high-speed rail will help it become a new town in the eastern part of Zhangjiagang.
