Guangdong police prevent and recover billions from telecom fraud
Police officers across Guangdong province prevented and recovered economic losses totaling 3.07 billion yuan ($432.39 million) after launching 43 nationwide and 69 province-wide cluster operations to combat telecom fraud in 2025, a senior police officer said.
Zou Quanhua, director of the political division of the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, detailed the accomplishments during a news conference in Guangzhou on Monday.
According to Zou, the province ranked first in the country for the number of cluster operations launched, the criminal and grey-industrial dens dismantled. "The police's severe crackdowns have effectively helped curb the once high incidence of telecom and online fraud in the southern province," he said.
The director presented statistics highlighting the department's successes: fraud and related crimes dropped by 17.4 percent and 11.4 percent, respectively, in 2025.
Meanwhile, police also helped prevent 749 individuals from being lured to foreign countries only to become trapped and blackmailed into working for fraud syndicates, he said.
Despite the achievements, Zou hinted that more special operations and campaigns would be launched in the coming months to continue the fight against fraud.
